LED drivers / transformers
LED lights require a ballast – the so-called driver or "transformer." This is because LED lamps operate with a constant, low direct current (DC), whereas our power grid typically runs on alternating current (AC). A driver regulates the current flow and reduces the voltage so that the LEDs are not overloaded and can function efficiently. LEDs are divided into voltage-controlled LEDs and current-controlled LEDs.
Voltage-controlled LEDs run on 12/24/48 volts DC (mostly LED strips)
Current-controlled LEDs run at 250mA/350mA/500mA/700mA/1050mA, each producing different voltage outputs that adapt to the LEDs.
(mostly spotlights)
